London, Feb 13 – Singer Katy Perry is happy with her weight and claims she doesn’t need to work out because her hectic schedule keeps her in shape.
‘I don’t feel pressure, as I know I’m kind of voluptuous and I’ve always been that way. Saying that, I’m young and metabolism is on my side and my schedule is so crazy that I lose weight from the intensity of it,’ contactmusic.com quoted her as saying.
The 25-year-old singer is engaged to British comic star Russell Brand.

London, Feb 13 – British fashion designer Alexander McQueen’s mother was laid to rest, a day after the designer allegedly committed suicide in his London apartment.
The 40-year-old style icon struggled to come to terms with the loss of his mother Joyce, who had passed away earlier this month, reported femalefirst.co.uk.
The double tragedy rocked the star’s family, but they decided to forge ahead with funeral plans for Joyce McQueen Friday.
‘It is just so raw. We are grieving. Everyone is too upset to say anything. But mum’s funeral is going ahead. It has all been arranged,’ said the designer’s brother, Michael McQueen, before the memorial.

London, Feb 13 – Low levels of natural antibodies are likely to trigger a stroke, says a new study from Karolinska Institute (KI), Sweden.
Researchers hope to be able to develop a vaccine that can mobilise the body’s own defence against arteriosclerosis and stroke.
Arteriosclerosis is formed by the accumulation of plaque on the walls of blood vessels, which can rupture and form a blood clot.
The research group, which was led by Johan Frostegard, KI professor had demonstrated that high levels of a certain type of antibody (anti-PC) in the immune defence are linked to a reduced risk of arteriosclerosis, a common cause of thrombosis (blot clots) and myocardial infarction (MI).
MI or acute MI (AMI), commonly known as a heart attack, is the interruption of blood supply to part of the heart, causing some heart cells to die.
In the present study, researchers focused exclusively on stroke — a blood clot in the brain — and compared 227 individuals who had suffered stroke over a 13-year period with 445 sex and age-matched controls.
After controlling for other risk factors (age, sex, smoking habits, cholesterol levels, diabetes, BMI and blood pressure), they were able to show that low levels (below 30 percent of average) of PC antibodies correlated with a higher risk of stroke, which in women meant an almost three-fold increase.
The researchers have now advanced the hypothesis that low levels of natural PC antibodies — which can be a condition of a poor immune system — contribute to the development of arteriosclerosis and its consequences, which include stroke, said a KI release.
‘Were now examining the possibility of developing new immunological treatments for arteriosclerosis and stroke, either in the form of a vaccine to stimulate the immune defence or immunisation through the injection of antibodies,’ says Frostegard.
These findings were published in Stroke.

London, Feb 13 – Hollywood actress Kim Cattrall says she would have been fine without the television series ‘Sex and the City’.
The 53-year-old actress, who won her role in the series about a group of four friends in New York at the age of 42, claims that although the show turned her from a jobbing actress to a household name, she would have been happy even without the success it has brought, femalefirst.co.uk reports.
‘If it hadn’t come along, I think I’d have been alright too. I’d have a really good, strong, journeyman actress career. That would have been fine,’ she said.

London, Feb 13 – Animal rights activists will gather to protest against Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta-Jones’ love for fur coats when she performs in her Broadway play ‘A Little Night Music’ Saturday.
Zeta-Jones’ controversial wardrobe choices and animal skin accessories have landed her at the top-worst dressed poll by officials of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), reported contactmusic.com.
‘With her creepy cow-skin pants, ugly fox coat, and icky alligator bag, Catherine Zeta-Jones looks like she’s working her way through Noah’s ark with a knife. Maybe she’s trying to get into character for an upcoming role as a serial killer or a taxidermist,’ said a PETA official.
Zeta-Jones is not the only star to come under fire. Jennifer Lopez, Aretha Franklin, Rihanna, Jessica Simpson and mother and daughter duo Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson also earn mentions on the list.

London, Feb 13 – Pop diva Madonna’s planned school in Malawi has forced 200 villagers to move house.
The singer has paid more than $115,000 to compensate the residents of Blantyre, Malawi, after they were ordered by government officials to make way for her $15 million Raising Malawi Girls Academy, reports contactmusic.com.
‘The district commissioner for Lilongwe told the villagers to move off the land and make way for the construction of the academy because it was government land reserved for development projects,’ said an official from the commissioner’s office.
The villagers had reportedly threatened to block the project which aims to provide education to 500 impoverished children unless they were given more cash after being paid $500,000 by the 51-year-old star’s Raising Malawi foundation.
However, they were reportedly told by Anjimile Mtila-Oponyo, a senior official for the charity, they had been given ‘generous compensation’ and had no reason to complain. They have been relocated to other villages.
Madonna has two adopted children from Malawi as well as two biological kids.
