Kochi, April 2 (IANS) Minister of External Affairs S.M.Krishna Monday launched 13 Passport Seva Kendras (PSK) in Kerala and said he will ensure that a few more are sanctioned when the next round of PSKs are cleared.
He inaugurated the seva kendras at a function held here in the presence of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and other top political leaders in the state.
‘I take this opportunity to congratulate the state government which worked very fast to see that 13 PSKs are opened in the state in one go. I have been requested to see that a few more are opened in the state and I assure that this would be taken up,’ said Krishna.
Till now, people who wanted a passport had to approach one of the four passport offices at Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kochi and Malappuram.
Speaking to IANS, Chandy said that with the opening of these PSKs that are to be managed by Tata Consultancy Services, people will have access to state-of-the-art services.
‘We have told minister Krishna that despite the 13 new PSKs that were opened today, five of the 14 districts of Kerala still do not have a PSK. The one at Pathanamitta is expected to open very soon, while for the other four, we have asked the Minister to speed up things,’ said Chandy.
With this PSKs, people can directly log in to www.passportindia.gov.in and create a user ID and assign a password and then, one can submit the form online .
Once that is done, an appointment is given and the applicant has to personally go to the PSK with all the original documents.
‘One complaint that I have been getting from people is the delay in issuing of passports because of the police verifications reports. For this, I am going to call a meeting of top passport and police officials very soon. I am hopeful that after the meeting takes place and a proper system is put in place, a passport can be issued in less than three weeks time,’ said Chandy.

Kochi, April 1 (IANS) Pune FC made their intentions for the season clear as they thrashed Chirag United Kerala 3-0 in round 22 of the I-League at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, here Sunday.
The victory powered by first half goals from Keita Mandjou, Singam Subhash Singh and Arata Izumi pushed them to 40 points and to the third spot in theleague standings while Chirag languish at 17 points.
The visitors set the ball rolling very early into the game as Mandjou helped by an assist from the left by Subhash Singh scored the opener in the fifth minute.
Pune did not sit back after taking the lead and they shook the net against an unsettled and uncertain Chirag United Kerala a minute later — this time it was Keita who turned provider and Subhash Singh the scorer.
Two goals down with just six minutes on the clock, Chirag players looked to have already conceded the game to the Pune outfit. Their attacks lacked precision and their goal was tested time and again by the opponents. Former Chirag player Karma Tsewang and Ivorian Douhou Pierre were exceptional in creating chances for Pune FC’s frontline.
Pune went further ahead in the 39th minute as Japanese born midfielder Izumi planted a shot in the back of the net from inside the Chirag box.
A terrible first half seemed to have taken the fire out of the home side and Pune were happy to sit back and defend the chances created by Chirag in the second half.
In the 73nd minute, a header from Chirag’s forward David Gadimoh Sunday hit the crossbar, but that was the only clear cut chance they created in the game.

Kochi, March 30 (IANS) A division bench of the Kerala High Court Friday stayed an order by a single bench permitting the Italian cargo ship Enrica Lexie, from which two marines had opened fire killing two Indian fishermen, to sail after its owners furnished a bond of Rs.3 crores and met other conditions.
The bench was acting on a petition filed by the families of the two fishermen who were shot dead.
On Thursday, a single bench had asked the ship’s owners furnish a bond of Rs.3 crore and meet other conditions, such as the ship’s captain, as also the vessel, be brought to Kerala for any further investigations that might be required.
The division bench held the view that it would be practically impossible to bring back the ship or its captain at a later date if the situation demands.
The state government’s counsel informed the court Friday that he had opposed the ship being permitted to sail.
The division bench after hearing all the pleas, said it would again take up the matter on Monday.
On Wednesday, counsel for the ship’s owners, Dolphin Tankers, told the court that the company was incurring huge expenditure with the ship docked off Kochi and it should be allowed to leave as they were fully cooperating with the investigation.
Two fishermen, Ajesh Binki, 25, and Gelastine, 45, were apparently mistaken as pirates and shot dead by marines aboard the vessel Feb 15, off Alappuzha.
The marines, Latorre Massimillano and Salvatore Girone, were picked up from the vessel and sent to jail Feb 20 on murder charges by a court in Kollam. They are lodged in the Central Prison in the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.

Among the conditions are that the ship’s captain, as also the vessel, should be brought to Kerala for any further investigations that might be required.

The marines, Latorre Massimillano and Salvatore Girone, were picked up from the vessel and sent to jail Feb 20 on murder charges by a court in Kollam. They are lodged in the Central Prison in the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.
Earlier Thursday, Italian Defence Minister Giampaolo Di Paola visited the jail and met the marines.
The minister later called on Chief Minister Oommen Chandy along with a large Italian delegation.
Chandy was assisted at the meeting by top police officers among others and after a 15-minute interaction with the Italian delegation, he and Paola engaged in a one-to-one interaction.
‘We were asked to leave because the two of them wanted to discuss some confidential matters,’ a top police officer said.
A press release issued by Chandy’s office said the state government informed the visiting minister that all the international conventions were being adhered to. The state government would also examine if any more conditions need to be fulfilled as per international norms.
