Jaipur, Dec 7 (IANS) South Korean firms are keen to set up an exclusive manufacturing zone in Rajasthan, encouraged by the success of the Japanese cluster at Neemrana, state government officials said here Friday.
The interest, according to them, was conveyed by Kyung Yool Kim, director general of the South Korean Trade Promotion Agency (Kotra), during a meeting here Thursday with Sunil Arora, chairman of Rajasthan State Industrial Development Corp (RIICO).
Kotra is the umbrella agency of the country’s ministry of commerce, industry and energy and is mandated to promote the interests of South Korean firms. Kyung is leading a large business delegation to India.
“The delegation was keen to learn about the model followed at the Japanese industrial zone in Neemrana. They were also keen to understand our arrangement with Jetro (Japan External Trade Organisation,” a senior official at RIICO said.
Arora, who is also principal secretary for industries in the Rajasthan government said, explained that around 30 Japanese companies had already established operations at the Neemrana zone, which is spread over more than 1,000 acres.
He said RIICO, which is a catalyst for industrial development in Rajasthan, will be keen to offer land, along with a well-developed infrastructure, at competitive rates to the South Korean companies.
Officials said a delegation from Rajasthan government, including officials from RIICO, may soon visit South Korea to make a presentation to companies about the opportunities available in the state.

Jaipur, Dec 1 (IANS) A bike rally was organised here Saturday by Rays, a non-government organisation, to mark the World AIDS Day that was led by “Ek Tha Tiger” director Kabir Khan to spread awareness and express solidarity with the HIV-positive fraternity.
The rally, kicked off by Jaipur Mayor Jyoti Khandelwal, took off with Kabir Khan leading the bikers, who moved towards Albert Hall and then returned to Jawahar Circle where the rallyists were given appreciation certificates.
“This has been an occasion to spread awareness about this virus, support the ones who are already living with it and remember the ones we have lost,” said Gurinder Virk, co-founder of Rays, which runs a shelter home for affected children.
The shelter home was started with two children in 2010 and today it has over 25. Besides providing for their lodging and food, Rays supplies medicines and also takes care of their education and extra-curricular activities.
“We have dance and music teachers visiting the children every week. We also get Art of Living classes conducted time to time,” said Virk, adding the entire sum of Rs.150,000 per month needed to run the home is contributed by a band of 50 patrons.
What is unique about the shelter home is it is also managed by HIV positive women, who sort of become “mothers” to similarly-affected children — a project where care-givers themselves are patients.
“Hiring an HIV-positive person was definitely a challenge due to the still prevailing social stigma and unawareness about the disease. But I had full faith in Anuradha’s capabilities and her experience with the hospital came as a huge help,” Virk, 57, told IANS.
The unique shelter house has five neatly decorated large rooms occupied by five children each, apart from a study room and a library. The five caregivers also live on the premises.
The children go to Rawat Public School, which fully supports Virk.
“We had been to a state government orphanage once and saw that the people there were reluctant to admit a kid who was HIV positive. That very day I and my friend decided that we will open one such place where we will have only HIV-positive children,” said Virk, who given up his job effective Oct 1 to devote his full time to the home.

Jaipur, Nov 24 (IANS) The increasing purchasing power of young Indians will influence the fashion trends and products in coming years, top government official said Saturday.
“India’s economic emergence on the global scene and 500 million youths are going to influence fashion trends as purchasing power of young India is increasing,” Darlie Koshy, director general and chief executive of Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC), at the Vastra 2012 textile seminar being held here.
According to the chief of ATDC which is being supported by the union textiles ministry and the Rajasthan Industrial Development and Investment corporation (RIICO), India is expected to be the fifth largest consumer market by 2025.
However, forecasting the fashion needs of India’s youth will be a different ball game altogether as the fashion activity has shifted from the metro centres to tier−I and II cities.
“Fashion forecasting is nothing more than predicting the mood, behavior and buying habits of the customers, who are no longer identified by traditional norms of age, geography or income,” said Professor Vandana Narang, fashion design department of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi.
Narang said over the last decade fashion awareness has increased as new brands and labels are reaching more and more Indian customers.

Jaipur, Nov 24 (IANS) After an NGO disclosed the identity of an HIV−infected couple to their neighbours in Jodhpur, they and their four children have been ostracised and are being forced to sleep on pavements, police said Saturday.
The family has been sleeping on pavements outside the local railway station after their neighbours beat them up and forced them to leave their house when they came to know that they were HIV positive.
The couple lived in Jodhpur’s Ambedkar Colony.
Police said a complaint has been registered at Sursagar police station in Jodhpur, 330 km from Jaipur.
“The man and his wife are HIV infected. An activist of an NGO had come to the couple’s house in Ambedkar Colony for counselling them a fortnight ago. He asked for directions to their house from some neighbours and mistakenly disclosed that the couple was suffering from AIDS,” a police officer told IANS.
“The neighbours feared that the couple would spread the disease among others in the colony, so they beat them up and forced them to leave. As they had nowhere else to go, they are spending nights in front of a railway station,” said the officer.
He added that the police are taking cognizance of the incident and a complaint has been registered through a court under section 107 of the Code of Criminal Procedural (CrPC).
A senior medial and health department officer said that disclosing the identity of an HIV−infected person is punishable under law.
“The victims or their family can register a first information report against people who disclose the identity of an AIDS patient,” said the officer.
