Mumbai, Feb 4 (IANS) Six months after his cardiac surgery, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi underwent a medical check-up here Saturday and was pronounced “fit and fine” by his doctors.

The 85-year-old leader had undergone two cardiac bypass grafts – one for enlargement of the artery and another for change of the aortic valve – exactly six months ago (Aug 4) at the Asian Heart Institute (AHI) by eminent heart surgeon Ramakant Panda.
Later, Gogoi was the chief guest at the fifth annual Braveheart Awards institute by the AHI, recognizing cardiac patients who have shown exemplary resilience in overcoming their medical issues to lead a healthy life.
The awardees were divided in nine categories, including two who are leading “a normal life post-cardiac surgery,” said Panda, who operated on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over two years ago.
While the youngest awarded was a 38-year-old, the oldest was Gogoi, who was presented the award by Panda.
Panda, pronouncing Gogoi as “hale and hearty”, lauded his healthy diet and lifestyle despite onerous duties as chief minister.
